Abstract
This thesis studied about John Paul’s Internal Conflict in Liana Moriarty “The Husband’s Secrets”. The aim of this research are to know how John Paul faces the internal conflict as described by Liana Moriarty in novel “The Husband’s Secrets”. The novel was first published on 30 July 2013. This novel contains 59 chapters with 496 pages. Then in this study he writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The data analysis technique in this research used formalism approach as explained Alex Sobur’s Internal Conflict theory. There are three types internal conflict based on Sobur theory. Such as approach-approach conflicts, approach-avoidance conflicts and avoidance-avoidance conflicts. Then in this study the writer found one approach-approach conflicts, three approach-avoidance conflicts and four avoidance-avoidance conflicts. In this novel, the main character of John Paul has a very fatal mistake of murder. He keeps it a secret from everyone including his parents, his wife, his daughter and Janie's parents. Janie is a murder victim committed by John when he was a teenager he was annoyed because Janie rejected his love and prefer other men. Then the writer also found five kinds of resolution to resolves the conflict based on Supratiknya theory they are turtle style, shark style, mouse deer style, fox style and owl style. John Paul resolves his conflict by using three turtle style,one shark style,one mouse deer style,one fox style and one owl style. John Paul as main character experienced conflicts that are dominated by Avoidance-Avoidance conflict He resolved his conflict on turtle style. Finally he could faced his conflict even his wife knew about the truth but she still keep her husband’s secrets.
