Abstract

Figurative language is language that uses words or expressions with a meaning i that is different from literal interpretation. It is also using non-literal language to express feelings and thoughts. Actually, figurative language is pan of semantic. This study is analyzing the figurative language used in MI.TR song lyric. The writer analyze figurative language in Perrine's (1982:33) theory. This study has two objectives; the first is to find out the types of figurative language of each stanza and the second is analyze the contextual meaning of each stanza. Besides that, in the end of this study, the writer find out the results that there are two types of figurative language are the most frequently used in this song lyric. They are overstatement (hyperbole) and paradox. The writer also find out what. the contextual ineaniugS and 'S eal *Meaning's. In addition, The Writer applied a qualitative data in this research. The data analyzed in the study arc some written texts taken from the song lyric. By these classifications, people can recognize well which one includes each of figurative speech. The benefit of figurative language and category used in this thesis is that the audience will comprehend theory that i can be used to give clearer and better understanding about the interpretations of figurative language
