Abstract
This study is aimed at finding the characateristics of psychopath that appear in the character, Harper Curtis in the novel The Shining Girlswritten by Lauren Beukes that published in 2013. Then, in this study the writer applies qualitative research approach. Meanwhile, to analyze the data the writer focuses on the point of view and the dialogues of Harper Curtis and his victims, Harper Curtis’s behavior and the way Harper Curtis kills his targets. Moreover, to analyze the character of Harper Curtis, the writer employs one theory. It is a theory about the characteristics of psychopath by Hare. From the analysis of the study, the writer found that there are twelve characteristics of psychopath that appear in the character, Harper Curtis. They are glib and superficial charm, grandiose self- worth, need for stimulation or proneness to boredom, pathological lying, conning and manipultiveness, lack of remorse or shame, callousness and lack of empathy, poor behavioral control, promiscous sexual behavior, early behavioral problem, failure to accept responsibility for own action, and the last one is criminal versality. Therefore, it is concluded that Harper Curtis has the characteristics of psychopath.
