Abstract

Indonesia has many regional languages, and each region in Indonesia has its own regional language. For example, Acehnese from Sumatra, Abui (aboa) from East Nusa Tenggara, Bengali from Sulawesi, and Dayak from Kalimantan. Of the many languages in Indonesia, Indonesia still has a national language, namely Indonesian, which can unite all Indonesian people into one. This is what can cause language shifting to occur, even when the individual migrates within the country. In this research the researcher uses qualitative methods and primary data types. The thesis ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE SHIFTING OF THE DAYAK COMMUNITY IN JAKARTA which uses the theory of Abdul Chaer (2004: 134) and Janet Holmes (2001:58-62), analyzes How do language shifting can happen in the Dayak community living in Jakarta and What aspects do influence the Dayak community in Jakarta so that they choose or through language shifting researchers found that the Dayak people still maintain their mother tongue, but because the frequency of using the language is more than that of the Dayak language, they begin to forget the Dayak language little by little. because when they go to school (even though they go to school in Kalimantan) they are still required to use Indonesian in communicating not in class or not in class, the next is when they move from Kalimantan to Jakarta to work or continue their education they are also required and choose to use Indonesian because many of the people in their environment or the people of Jakarta do not understand or understand Dayak language.
