Abstract

The topic in this study is about Cath's character in novel "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell. Cath has introverted personality who struggle with first moment on her life, that is a new college student who had to live on college dormitory. Cath's twin sister usually with Cath suddenly wanted her own world and left Cath. Cath feel very worried about her college life. Until, Cath meet Levi, the person who is going to change Cath's life in college. This study is to show how introverted personality affects to person who had this personality in social relations with the people around using Cath Avery representation as an example. The writer used qualitative research. By using this approach, the writer applied some Psychology of Literature theory related to the theories of Introvert. Introverted personality is a personality that makes people who have this personality prefer to spend time alone or with one or two friends they feel close to. According to Eysenck (in Nuqul, 2006. Hal: 31) people with introverted personality types have a calm nature, like to take care of themselves, be careful, thinkers, lack confidence in impulsive decisions, prefer to live in an orderly manner, like to be moody, worried, rigid, simple, pessimistic, aloof, less sociable, quiet, passive, careful, tolerant, peaceful, controlled, reliable, self-controlled (Pelvin 1994). People with Introverted personality often need time alone to recharge after being in a social environment. At the end, the writer find out that Cath Avery really describes an Introverted personality. She is happy when she is alone and write Simon-Baz fiction. She is very difficult to close to others, even person who is her roommate partner. Cath's introversion has gotten really bad, luckily Levi and her roommate's partner Reagan can understand all of that.
