Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the reduplication in a motivational storybook by its (a) form of reduplication, (b) meaning of reduplication, and (c) what changes of word-class happen in reduplicated words. The theory used in this research is M. Ramlan’s “Morfologi: Suatu Tinjauan Deskriptif “. The object of this research is the reduplication is the motivational storybook entitled “Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar”. The research is trying to answer: (1) what are the forms of reduplication found in the book? (2) what are the meanings of reduplication found in the book? (3) what are the changes This research is done through the qualitative method. The data is collected with a note-taking method. The data is analyzed by extracting the information from the researcher’s note and classifying the data into groups. The result of the research is concluded as follows. First, the form of the reduplication is (1) full reduplication, (2) partial reduplication, (3) combination of the reduplication with affix attached, and (4) reduplication with slight phoneme changes. Second, the meaning of reduplications are (1) multiple things, (2)adjective describing multiple nouns, (3) although, (4) resembling something, (5) repetitive action, (6) action done in a certain manner, (7) Reciprocal Meaning, (8) Activity related to the base word, (9) Adjective as possible, (10) Intensified action. Third, there are changes of word-class when the base word is reduplicated, such as (1) Adjective to Adverbs, (2) Noun to Adjective, (3) Noun to Verb, (4) Verb to Adjective, (5) Verb to Adverb.
