Abstract

The research focuses on figurative language song lyrics created by English legendary musician John Lennon. The study aims to find out the figurative language used in each songs lyrics. To answer the problem, researchers use qualitative research only, which has been described as researchers only focus on the use of figurative language. In the lyrics of the theory used is figurative language Picken theory (2007). The Data used in this analysis is to find and collect from John Lennon's 8 songs on the internet, the 8 songs are Imagine, Across the universe, Oh my Love, Working class hero, Going down on love, Out the blue, #9Dream and You are here and all are creations by John Lennon, after the analysis and thorough by the researchers, apparently there are several types of the figurative language contained in the 8 lyrics of the song Symbolism, Paradox, repetition, metaphor, sarcasm, alliteration, hyperbole, simile, personification and irony. The author found quite a lot figurative in the 8 song works of John Lennon.
