Abstract

Every human being has an ambition in life. Ambition is good when people know how to reach their ambition without harming others nor themselves. Molly Bloom was a little girl from a small town in Colorado that since when she was a kid, she had a dream to have no ordinary life and want to leave her mark in the world. Then after she has grown-up, she was known as poker princess because she was running the biggest underground poker game in the world. This study describes the ambition and the motives undergone by Molly Bloom in Molly’s Game novel. The writer used the core motive (Bucket: Belonging, Understanding, Controlling, Self-Enhancing, and trusting) in social psychology theory by Fiske on analyzing the motive on the main character ambition. The writer also used qualitative method in doing analysis. After analyze the writer found that Molly had ambition on career and wealth. Molly’s motives showed that she became so ambitious on gaining career and wealth because she was desired to get recognition like her two younger brothers who got it from her father, then with her social situation she wanted to put herself in the same place.
